Seven Day Centering Prayer Retreat – December 3-9, 2021

Cedarbrake Retreat Center, Belton TX

Led by Mary Anne Best

There is something wondrous and expectant evoked by the very word “Advent.” What is this expectation that beckons within our hearts, that seems to be called forth again and again anew each Advent? The aching sense of fulfillment not yet realized; the hunger and the thirst of the heart for something yet to come; an orientation beckoning from the future? While the affairs of the world clamor for our attention and retail euphoria abounds, we can participate in the affairs of the world and be attuned to the ancient harmonies of this holy time – nourished by silence, prayer, Scripture, the sacred music, art, beauty, and rituals of the season, shared intentionality, together waiting – expecting – the Light Divine, the Light who came to transfigure the whole cosmos.

The Eastern Christian tradition sees the Advent season as a time of waiting for the light that will first shine forth at Christmas and reach its peak on Epiphany, the Feast of Lights. This beautiful text of Isaiah is proclaimed during the liturgy of the season:

Rise up in splendor!
Your light has come,
the glory of the Lord shines upon you . . .
Upon you the Lord shines,
and over you appears God’s glory.
– Isaiah 60:1-2

We will hold this passage as we move in prayer, in inner stillness and outer silence, throughout our Advent retreat. Each evening we will celebrate the sharing of Eucharist.

The retreat will be held in the Conference Center and will include daily periods of Centering Prayer, spacious schedule for time in nature, rest and prayer, vegetarian meals and private room. Cost is $780. Attendance is limited.

Currently all spaces are filled. To be on a wait list, please call 512-347-9673 or email
