Five Day Centering Prayer Retreat – September 10-14, 2021 – Cedarbrake Retreat Center, Belton TX
Doorway to Devotion ~ Silence After Sound
The Five-Dimensional Approach led by Jim Reale
Embodied prayer is a method, a teaching, a discipline to request the Presence of God at every level of our humanity. From body to breath to mind to heart, space is created for the Divine to open, to stay and rest. When the Five-Dimensional practices are followed for a long period of time, with a positive and eager attitude, our inner life (and consequently outer life) is transformed.
The Five Dimensional Approach uses the following contemplative tools with specific intensions: Simple body movement, carefully guided, opens the body and releases habitual tension. Sacred chant, composed with the idea of musical simplicity and theological depth are taught to raise our voices together just as monastic communities have done for centuries. These original chants, combined with reverential gesture, instill a devotional quality that moves our intention deeper into the heart. Conscious breathing techniques will be taught to quiet and purify the mind. Jim will weave movement, breath and chant with Centering Prayer as the pinnacle, creating a contemplative tapestry, a profound calm on multiple levels to enrich, deepen and ground our experience during numerous 30 minute periods of prayer daily.
Each evening we will celebrate the sharing of Eucharist.
Participants will be given handouts to enable you to continue with these practices at home.
Jim has been teaching contemplative practice for over 20 years. He created The Five Dimensional Approach to prayer incorporating movement, breath, and chant. He has taught at conferences with Fr. Thomas Keating and Fr. Richard Rohr. Besides his CD Doorway to Devotion, he is currently composing his second chanting CD based on the writings of Fr. Thomas Keating. Jim is a Registered Nurse specializing in hospice care, certified yoga therapist and documentary filmmaker. He is an advocate for nonviolence in his private and public life. He continues to integrate eastern wisdom practices from his many pilgrimages to India into western spirituality. He currently studies privately with Sonia Nelson for the past 22 years. Jim lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, happily with his wife Barbara.
