The aim of the audio team is to provide sound amplification, recordings, and lighting that will support and enhance the services and ministry of CCH. Worship services, weeknight programs and special events are all options for service. Training and mentoring is provided until you are comfortable with the technical aspects of the sound system.
Participating in this service area can include making CD recordings, operating the checkout register or assisting congregants in finding books. Opportunities include Sundays, Wednesday evening after the service and Thursday evenings after class.
The community comes together to provide special cleaning and maintenance of the buildings and grounds. The workday is a time of selfless service, where we ask God to work through us for the highest good. Community workdays are generally scheduled once every other month on a Saturday. We begin with prayer at 9:00am and end by noon.
Contemplative Lunch Preparation
Help to prepare before, or clean up after our weekly contemplative lunch. Community happens in the kitchen and love is in the food! Wednesday morning through the lunch hour. This is a way to gain experience for retreat staffing.
Contemplative Response Team
The Contemplative Response Team is a Christ centered ministry for responding to requests for contemplative service to The Church of Conscious Harmony community through prayer, spiritual companioning and compassionate hospitality. Ongoing formation is provided to team members to learn contemplative approaches and dispositions for certain situations. Select this CRT background link to read more about this opportunity. The next special formation training will be April 16, 2016 from 9-noon.
The floral committee prepares flowers for the Sunday services and assists with flowers for special events. New members are trained by existing members for their first 2-3 assigned dates. Each member prepares flowers every 4-5 weeks.
Prison Ministry (Emotions Anonymous)
Emotions Anonymous is a 12 step program based on the Alcoholics Anonymous principles. The purpose is to share Centering Prayer and provide a compassionate presence with the female inmates of Hobby Prison for Women (located in Marlin, TX) while they conduct their Emotions Anonymous meeting. We welcome both men and women to this ministry who meet the prerequisites. One visit per month.
People interested in staffing a retreat should have a regular Centering Prayer practice of 1-2 years, experience attending our retreats (preferably a 10-day), a deep love of Centering Prayer and a desire to serve it. Generally, retreat staffing experience begins with staffing one-day and two-day commuter retreats held at the Church. Retreat staffing assignments are typically set in November for all of the following year’s retreats. But occasionally there are last-minute opportunities available.
Sunday Seva Group
Seva (pronounced say’-vah) is a Sanskrit word for the spiritual practice of selfless service. It is the practice of offering work with love, without expectation of reward. Seva is one of the simplest and yet most profound, life changing ways that we can put our spiritual understanding into action. Each Sunday, every five weeks, a rotating team of participants prepares the church for the Sunday services and offers a free, homemade breakfast for the community.
Participants in the YES program have several options to choose from including classroom leaders and auxiliary support (floating angels, storytellers and musicians for chapel, etc). All participants receive a free CD of the Sunday Worship Service. Membership in the church is a prerequisite for participating in the YES program.
